Two week update...

On Friday, Jan 7, three of the puppies opened their eyes! They are squirmy and wiggly...moving around a bit more.

Unfortunately, on Sunday, Jan 9th, one of the girls, Clara, passed away from Fading Puppy Syndrome...she was much smaller and had not developed as well as her siblings. She also appeared to have some developmental issues or congenital birth defects. She is at peace.

One week old and moving around....

Momma Maddie is keeping a close eye on her babies, who are growing every day. They are definitely more active and are crawling around their puppy bed. Momma needs to nose them around to reposition them or they cry (squeak) when they don't feel their siblings nearby.

Madeline

Madeline was found as a stray on Christmas eve. She gave birth to six puppies on Christmas day; unfortunately, two of the puppies did not survive.

Then the shelter had her and the babies slated for euthanasia...shelters do not have the space or resources for litters of puppies. Rocket Dog Rescue could not bear to see this new family destroyed, especially after all Madeline has already been through.

So they were placed in a foster home where Maddie can concentrate on her babies...

Madeline weighs about 12 lbs. We believe she is a chihuahua/doxie/terrier mix.

Three days old and safe....

Madeline's babies were born on Christmas day in the shelter and were slated for euthanasia a few days later when the staff were back from the weekend. Fortunately Rocket Dog Rescue volunteers saw this momma and her babies at the shelter and saved them that same day!

Momma is a small breed dog...WE DO NOT KNOW WHO DADDY IS! So it is anyone's guess at this point of the mixture of breeds....we may be able to tell more when the pups get a bit older...


There are four puppies: three girls and one boy. Mama Madeline: She weighs about 12 lbs, shy at first, but warms up quickly. Very sweet and likes to be held.
